Keep out of Landfill via Special Program:

Never recycle paint cans in your recycling bin or cart.

From a RI household:
If your city or town is listed below, click on its name to see the local paint instructions for its residents. You can also call the Eco-Depot Program for a FREE appointment at 942-1430 x 241 or make an appointment on our website. On this page you can also download our Eco-Depot brochure, listing other HHW items you may have to dispose, and make a single trip.

From any RI source (e.g. household, business, school):
Statewide options for disposal are listed below. Fees may apply. RIRRC does not recommend any one business or organization over another

Trash (Water-based ONLY):
Water-based paint, like latex, is safe for disposal in the trash, but needs to be hardened for the safety of workers and equipment. If there isn’t too much paint left, just leave it out with the lid off and it will dry without having to add anything.  If there is a significant amount left, you can do this with paint hardener, saw dust, or even kitty litter.
