All residential trash shall be placed in a specially designated bag approved by the Department of Public Works. All fees below are for residents; non-resident fees are generally twice as much.
***As of May 19, 2020, the transfer station is accepting all commodities. Paint, fluorescent light bulbs and cooking oil can be dropped off on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only. Mattresses, freon units, tires must go on the scale before dumping. Avoid Saturdays if possible to avoid crowds and long wait times. Antifreeze: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $1.00 per gallon.
Appliances (large/white goods): Drop off at the Transfer Station, free of charge, including appliances such as a stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, or hot water tank.
Appliances (w/ Freon): Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $15, including appliances such as a refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, or air conditioner.
Asphalt, Brick, Concrete: Drop off "rubble" at the Transfer Station for a fee of $15/ton, including asphalt, brick, concrete and water stone.
Auto Batteries: Drop off at the Transfer Station.
Books and Media: Drop off at the Transfer Station into the Discover Books bin, including books and commercially recorded media such as CDs, DVDs, records and books on CD.
Bulky Waste: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $10.
Carpeting/Rugs: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $10.
Christmas Trees: Drop off at the Transfer Station for free during the month of January, otherwise for a fee of $100/ton for brush.
Clothing/Textiles: Drop off at the Transfer Station into the Planet Aid boxes.
Construction & Demolition Debris: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee ($10 minimum applied for $125 ton (all residents, businesses within Westerly and outside of Westerly). Includes demolition debris, wood & wood products, sheetrock & plaster, wood or asphalt shingles. No metal.
Cooking Oil: Drop off at the Transfer Station on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only.
E-waste: Drop off at the Transfer Station. Includes TVs, computers and computer related hardware (i.e., printers, keyboards, modems, etc.), cell phones, and cell phone batteries. Non-resident console TVs are $10.
Extra Recycling: Drop off at the Transfer Station.
Fluorescent Bulbs: Drop off at the Transfer Station on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only.
Furniture: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $10.
Leaf & Yard Waste: Drop off at the Transfer Station. Residents can drop off grass/leaves/garden debris from their own property, free of charge, but for commercial landscapers and residents doing business it’s $15 per ton, and $100/ton for brush from residents & commercial landscapers.
Mattresses & Box Springs: Drop off at the Transfer Station, free of charge, for Westerly residents only, limit 3 per day. Mattresses deemed non-recyclable (severely damaged, twisted, wet, frozen, heavily soiled, biologically contaminated or appear to contain bed bugs) will be rejected mattresses will have a charge of $80.
Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at the Transfer Station.
Paint: Drop off at the Transfer Station on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only.
Paper for Shredding: Free at yearly town events, call the DPW for updates.
Plastic Bags & Film: Drop off at the Transfer Station.
Propane Tanks: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee: 1-20 lbs. $2; 20-100 lbs. $50; Over 100 lbs.: Not accepted. Propane tanks must be empty prior to drop off.
Scrap Metal: Drop off at the Transfer Station.
Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, if made primarily out of metal, can be dropped off with scrap metal.
Tires: Drop off at the Transfer Station for a fee of $5 each for car and light truck tires and $15 for heavy tires.
