Department of Public Works (DPW): 10 Junior Street (behind Horgan School). Mon.-Fri, 7AM - 2:30PM, open the first and third Saturdays of the month from 7 AM-11:30 AM for drop off. Residents must stop in the DPW office before being directed to the correct location. Contact: DPW at 401-822-9226 or visit their website.
Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator: 100 Factory Street (Thomas Lamb Building). Hours: Mon.-Fri., 7am-12pm.

Appliances (large/white goods): Picked up curbside, Premium Service for a fee of $25. Includes items such as stoves, washing machines, dryers, hot water heaters, dishwashers, etc. Residents must purchase a sticker ahead of time at the Dept. of Public Works. No item will be picked up unless a sticker is attached. You can also mail in a payment for a white goods sticker to the DPW, just be sure to include a self addressed stamped envelope. OR drop off at DPW for free. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Appliances (w/ Freon): Picked up curbside, for a fee of $25. Includes items such as refrigerators, air conditioners and other items that contain Freon. Residents must purchase a sticker ahead of time at the DPW. No item will be picked up unless a sticker is attached. You can also mail in a payment for a white goods sticker to the DPW, just be sure to include a self addressed stamped envelope. OR drop off at DPW for a fee of $25. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Books: Drop off at the DPW, free of charge.
Bulky Waste: Picked up curbside, free of charge for the first four pickups, $25.00 for any additional pickups within the year. Includes items such as furniture, carpeting, and items not able to fit into the assigned garbage bin. Pickup is the first and third Saturday of every month. Must be scheduled with the DPW secretary at least 3 days prior to pickup date. Does NOT include construction debris or extra large trash hauls. Please do not place bulk items on curb until the day before the scheduled pick up.
Cardboard: All Flattened cardboard smaller than 3'x5' can be placed in the recycling carts. Cardboard 3'x5' and larger can be dropped off in the cardboard dumpsters at the DPW during office hours. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Carpeting/Rugs: Must be scheduled as a bulky waste pickup. Carpets must be cut to 4-5 ft. lengths; rolled and tied.
Christmas Trees: Picked up curbside January 1st through the first Friday of February. Christmas trees may also be dropped off as yard waste at the DPW during normal business hours. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Clothing/Textiles: Picked up curbside on Tuesday or Thursday, free of charge by contacting Big Brothers Big Sister of Rhode Island. Schedule an appointment online at www.donateri.org or by phone at 401-921-2434 x112. Or drop off in BBBSRI textile bins located at the DPW and other Town properties.
E-waste: Drop off at the DPW. Please check in with the DPW office first. Residents can drop off their electronics during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm. Acceptable materials include computers, laptops, servers, routers, televisions, monitors, flat screens, hard drives, mother boards, daughter boards, CD ROMS, inkjet printers, fax machines, typewriters, scanners, toner cartridges, cameras, calculators, cell phones, cordless phones, iPods, chargers, all types of cables and wires, stereos, CD/DVD players, console gaming systems, cassette players, remote controls, and small household appliances NOT INCLUDING glass accessories.
Extra Recycling: Drop off at the DPW. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Furniture: Must be scheduled as a bulky waste pickup.
Leaf & Yard Waste: Yard waste pick up starts the third full week of April and is then collected every week through May, every other week June through September and every week in October and November, into the 2nd week of December. Yard waste is collected on resident's scheduled trash day. Yard waste must be in biodegradable bags or barrels not exceeding 35 pounds. There is a maximum of 15 bags per pickup and bushes/branches must be tied and bundled in 3ft sections. The yard waste schedule is available on the DPW's website.
Residents may also drop off yard waste at the DPW during normal business hours. Please check in with the DPW office first. NOTE: The sweeping or blowing of leaves and other yard waste into streets, sidewalks, or into town right of way is prohibited.
Mattresses: All mattresses and box springs MUST be bagged and sealed prior to pick up OR drop off. Picked up curbside, Premium Service for a fee of $25. Residents must purchase a sticker ahead of time at the DPW. No item will be picked up unless it is bagged and a sticker is attached. OR drop off at DPW, free of charge, maximum 5 units per year per resident for free drop off. Please check in with the DPW office first. Bags are available for purchase for $6.00 each at the DPW office.
Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at DPW, free of charge. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Paint: Drop off at DPW, free of charge. NO SPRAY PAINT. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Propane Tanks: Drop off at DPW, free of charge. Propane tanks MUST be empty and the valve must be removed prior to drop off. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Scrap Metal: Drop off at DPW, free of charge. Please check in with the DPW office first.
Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, can be dropped off with e-waste.
Tires: Drop off at DPW. Up to 2 tires are free, additional are $2.00 each, 19.5" tires are $5.00 each, tractor trailer tires are $10.00 each, oversized/off road are $75.00 each. Please check in with the DPW office first.
