Appliances (large/white goods): Free curbside pickup on the first Monday of the month. Make an appointment by calling the Recycling Office. Appointments must be made by the prior Friday at noon. Or drop off at the Recycling Center: Refreigerators, air conditoners, dehumidifiers
Appliances (w/ Freon): Free curbside pickup on the first Monday of the month. Make an appointment by calling the Recycling Office. Appointments must be made by the prior Friday at noon. Or drop off refrigerators, air conditoners and dehumidifiers at the Recycle Center during business hours.
Books: Drop off in the bins at Navigant Credit Union (925 Victory Highway).
Bulky Rigid Plastic: Old recycling bins will be collected curbside during the weeks of July 8 and July 15 on your regular collection day. Or drop off at the Recycle Center during business hours. Items include: old recycling bins, empty garbage cans, lawn furniture, milk crates, plastic toys, pet carriers, plastic pallets, coolers, flower pots. All containers must be empty. PVC pipe, vinyl siding, garden hoses or plastic film are not accepted. Old recycling bins will be collected curbside during the weeks of July 8 and July 15 on your regular collection day.
Bulky Waste: Picked up curbside, limited to one (1) accepted item per week. This collection is for couches, chairs etc. and must be allowed in our trash collection. It does not include metal or rigid plastic items, hazardous waste, construction debris or mattresses. Please be mindful of weather. Bulky items that are soaking wet or covered with rain or snow will be too heavy for our hauling crew to pick up.
Cardboard: If flattened cardboard doesn't fit in the recycling bin, place it loose next to your recycling bin.
Carpeting/Rugs: Picked up curbside as a bulky item, limit 1 per week. Carpeting should be rolled and bundled in 3 foot lengths. Wall to wall carpeting and padding are accepted, with a limit of 8-10 bundles per week.
Christmas Trees: Picked up curbside seasonally, generally during the two weeks after Christmas. See the town website for details. Or drop off at the Recycle Center during winter hours of operation.
Clothing/Textiles: Drop off in the Upcycle Collaborative (Kiducation) bins located at the Recycle Center, North Smithfield Elementary School (2214 Providence Pike) and Pacheco Park (11 Main St.).
E-waste: Drop off at yearly town events, call the Recycling Office for details.
Furniture: Picked up curbside as a bulky item, limit 1 per week. This collection is for couches, chairs etc. and must be allowed in our trash collection. It does not include metal or rigid plastic items, hazardous waste, construction debris or mattresses. Please be mindful of weather. Leaf & Yard Waste: Picked up curbside, weekly on regular trash day during Spring and Fall season. Spring season generally runs April 1 – June 1; Fall from Oct. 1 – Dec. 1, see the town website for actual start dates. Yard waste must be in brown compostable leaf bags or cans clearly marked. There is a limit of 8 bags and/orcans per week. Yard waste is vegetation, grass, leaves, weeds and branches smaller than 3 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter. NO stones, dirt, or trash can be mixed in.
Mattresses & Box Springs: Picked up curbside on Mondays for a fee of $20 each. Appointments must be made by the Friday before by calling 401-615-9619. Mattresses must be dry to be collected. Or drop off at the Recycle Center, free of charge, if accepted in the recycling program, during specified hours. Visit the town's website for details.
Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at the Recycle Center.
Paper for Shredding: Free at yearly town events. Visit the town website for dates, or call the Recycling Office for updates.
Scrap Metal: Drop off at the Recycle Center. Items include: microwaves, metal appliances, air conditioners, refrigerators, pots & pans, bicycles, file cabinets, lamps, desks, metal rims, aluminum doors, old tools etc.
Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, may be accepted be as scrap metal, depending on the item.
