Appliances (large/white goods): Picked up curbside by calling DPW for pickup for a fee of $15 for a hot water heater or $20 each for a washer or dryer. Place white goods/appliances out for collection no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled pick-up day.
Appliances (w/ Freon): Picked up curbside by calling DPW for pickup for a fee of $15 for an air conditioner or $20 for a refrigerator. Per state law, please remove all doors from refrigerators. Place white goods/appliances out for collection no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled pick-up day.
Bulky Waste: Free pickup curbside, by calling the DPW for an appointment.
Cardboard: If flattened cardboard doesn't fit inside of the recycling cart, lay it across the top of your recycling cart, tucked under the lid, up to 5 boxes.
Carpeting/Rugs: Free pickup curbside, must be cut 3-4 ft lengths and fit inside of carts.
Christmas Trees: Picked up curbside in January, dates announced annually.
Clothing/Textiles: Drop off into Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI bins at the following locations: Greystone Elementary School, 100 Morgan Ave.; Ricci Middle School, 51 Intervale Ave.; Birchwood Middle School, 10 Birchwood Drive; North Providence Mancini Center, 2 Atlantic Blvd.; and Whelan Elementary, 1440 Mineral Spring Ave.
Cooking Oil: Drop off at DPW, free of charge.
E-waste: Drop off at the DPW. Includes electronics such as televisions, monitors, computers, computer equipment, cell phones, microwave ovens (must be clean), and more. Projection or console TVs are free to drop off, or there is a fee of $15 to be picked up curbside.
Furniture: Free pickup curbside on Wednesday, limit of one item per week, by appointment, by calling the DPW. Sofa beds should have the metal removed.
Leaf & Yard Waste: Picked up curbside on your regular collection day per the posted schedule, typically January-April as needed by DPW, and weekly April 1 to December 15 by the town's hauler, MTG Disposal. Residential yard waste shall be defined as organic material such as but not limited to leaves, grass cuttings, shrubbery, brush and branches 6 inches in diameter or less or other material that may be naturally biodegradable. Yard waste must be placed in acceptable biodegradable paper bags from January-April. Barrels are acceptable April-December but must be left uncovered. Branches, brush and clean wood must be called into DPW for an appointment. Clean wood must be free of nails. Limit of 8 bags/barrels/bundles per week.
Mattresses & Box Springs: Picked up curbside, by appointment, by calling the DPW, for a fee of $25 each. Residents must pay the $25 fee ahead of time in person, by check or money order payable to the Town of North Providence.
Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at DPW.
Propane Tanks: Drop off at DPW. The valve must be removed prior to drop off.
Scrap Metal: Picked up curbside, call the DPW for an appointment. Small items primarily made out of metal such as small appliances and microwave ovens may be dropped off at the DPW.
Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, if made primarily out of metal, can be dropped off with scrap metal at DPW.
