Appliances (large/white goods): Picked up curbside. Contact Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 for a fee of $27.50 fee per item, or make arrangements with a licensed scrap dealer. Includes items such as washers, dryers, hot water tanks (microwaves are not considered a white good).
Appliances (w/ Freon): Picked up curbside. Contact Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 for a fee of $27.50 fee per item, or make arrangements with a licensed scrap dealer. Includes items such as refrigerators and freezers.
Books and Media: Drop off at the Public Works Highway Yard into the Discover Books bin, including books and commercially recorded media such as CDs, DVDs, records and books on CD.
Bulky Waste: Picked up curbside for $21 per item. Schedule a pickup by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545.
Cardboard: All flattened cardboard must fit inside of the recycling cart, with the lid closed.
Carpeting/Rugs: Picked up curbside for $22 per item. Schedule a pickup by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545.
Christmas Trees: Collected on a yearly basis on your regular collection day, starting January 2, for two weeks following.
Clothing/Textiles: Drop off into the Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI bins at the following locations: the Ice Rink parking lot at 900 Phenix Ave., the Cranston Fire Department Station 6 at 1155 Scituate Ave. and the Cranston Police Department at 5 Garfield Ave.
E-waste: Drop off at the Public Works Highway Yard. Items accepted are: computers, laptops, servers, routers, and peripherals such as mice, keyboards, speakers, and microphones. TVs, monitors and flat screens. TVs must be whole and intact. NO broken or exposed TV tubes are accepted as this is considered hazardous waste. Hard drives, optical drives, motherboards, daughter boards, ram, CD ROMs, etc. Printers, fax machines, typewriters, scanners, toner cartridges, cameras, calculators, and small medical equipment. Cell phones (including battery), cordless phones, PDA's, iPods, tablets, and chargers. Audio/visual equipment, stereos, CD/DVD players, console gaming systems, cassette players, remote controls.
Furniture: Picked up curbside for $21 per item. Schedule a pickup by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545.
Leaf & Yard Waste: Place curbside April 1 to December 15 on your regular collection day. Yard Waste includes leaves, grass clippings, hedge clippings, brush and branches and other small vegetative material that may be naturally biodegradable. Yard Waste must be placed in brown paper bags (no plastic bags) or corrugated boxes marked "Yard Waste" or barrels marked "Yard Waste." Branches must be bundled and no longer than 4-feet long and placed on the curb no later than 6:15 am on your collection day, but not before noon the day before. Fluorescent orange stickers to label barrels for yard waste can be obtained at the Department of Public Works.
Mattresses & Box Springs: Picked up curbside for $33.00 per item by appointment by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545. Mattresses must be bagged prior to placing curbside and can be purchased at a hardware store such as Durfee's. Or by appointment only, Cranston Residents can bring mattresses to the Public Works Highway Yard. Appointments must be made by calling 780-3174 and are offered on Thursdays between the hours of 7:30 A.M -11:30 A.M. This is a free service and residents must be able to place the mattresses in the designated Pod in the assigned area. This option is limited to 4 mattresses/box spring per drop off, twice a year.
Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at the Public Works Highway Yard.
Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, can be dropped off with e-waste.
Tires: Drop off at the Public Works Highway Yard.
