Appliances (large/white goods): These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form.

Appliances (w/ Freon): These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form.

Auto Batteries: Drop-off at Smithfield DPW by calling the Recycling Coordinator for an appointment. Some exclusions apply.

Books and Media: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates. OR visit any of the Discover Books bins in Smithfield, which accepts books and commercially recorded media such as CDs, DVDs, records and books on CD.

Bulky Rigid Plastic: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates. Or drop-off at Smithfield DPW by calling the Recycling Coordinator for an appointment. Some exclusions apply.

Bulky Waste: These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form.

Cardboard: All flattened cardboard must fit inside of the recycling cart. Cardboard that does not fit can be dropped off at the Smithfield DPW into the "CARDBOARD ONLY" dumpster. Flattened cardboard must be no more than 5.5' long in order to fit into the dumpster.

Carpeting/Rugs: These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form. Must be cut and rolled into 3’ sections, not more than 50lb.

Christmas Trees: Picked up curbside during first two weeks of January, on your regular collection day. Do not bag trees.

Clothing/Textiles: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates. OR visit any of the donation bins in Smithfield from the following organizations: Goodwill, BigsRI, Upcycle Collaborative (Kiducation), and Salvation Army.

E-waste: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates. Or drop-off at Smithfield DPW by calling the Recycling Coordinator for an appointment. Some exclusions apply.

Extra Recycling: Drop off in the CARDBOARD ONLY dumpster located at Smithfield DPW.

Furniture: These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form.

Ink Cartridges: Drop off at East Smithfield Public Library (50 Esmond St., Smithfield) or Greenville Public Library (573 Putnam Pike, Greenville).

Leaf & Yard Waste: Picked up curbside on your regular collection day per the following schedule: every week April through May, every other week starting June through October, and every week in November, ending the first week in December. Residential yard includes leaves, grass cuttings, shrubbery, brush and branches 3 inches in diameter or less. Yard waste must be placed at the curb no later than 5:30 am on your regular day of collection. Yard waste must be placed in paper bags, or uncovered trash barrels labeled “Yard Waste.” Branches and brush must be cut in lengths of 3 feet, bundled and tied. Milled lumber is not accepted. A maximum of 12 bags or barrels of yard waste and trash combined are accepted per household each week.

Mattresses & Box Springs: Curbside mattress collection is no longer available. Free drop off at periodic town events for clean, dry mattresses and box springs to be recycled. Call the Recycling Coordinator for updates. Mattresses and box springs that are not accepted for recycling will need to be brought, by the resident, to RIRRC for disposal.

Motor Oil & Filters: Drop off at Smithfield DPW, at no charge, 4 gallons maximum per visit.

Paper for Shredding: Free paper shredding at periodic town events, call the Recycling Coordinator for updates.

Propane Tanks: Drop-off at Smithfield DPW by calling the Recycling Coordinator for an appointment. Some exclusions apply. Propane tanks must be empty with the valve left open prior to drop off.

Scrap Metal: These items are picked up by appointment on a pre-determined schedule. Appointments can be made by calling Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 or through the Bulk Pickup Request Form. Some qualifying items may be eligible for drop-off at Smithfield DPW by appointment - call the Recycling Coordinator for more information. Some exclusions apply.

Shredded Paper: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates.

Small Appliances (no Freon): Typically electric items with a cord, can be dropped off with E-waste (see above instructions).

Tires: Free drop-off at yearly town-sponsored special events, visit the Recycling website for updates.
