Recycle via Drop-off:
Do NOT place in your recycling bin or cart. This can be dropped-off for recycling only through a special foam recycling program. Bring to RIRRC for FREE, in a segregated load, during normal operating hours. Foam must be clean, dry and bagged in clear or translucent bags. No spongy foam (think: #1 Fan fingers), no packing peanuts, no foam insulation boards. Questions? Call the scalehouse: 942-1430 ext. 101.
Some UPS stores will accept styrofoam peanuts for reuse. Other stores specializing in mail/packing may as well. Put your zipcode in this search tool or call ahead to your local store first.
Additonal drop-off options in Northern RI:
If your city or town is listed below, click on its name to see the local polystyrene instructions for its residents.
KWD, Inc., 660 Douglas Road, Uxbridge, MA, 01569, accepts clean, dry Styrofoam for recycling. EXCEPTIONS: No peanuts or spongy foam (think #1 Fan finger). They may be reached at (508)-731-5020. KWD, Inc. is about 5 minutes outside the RI-MA border. Take Rt. 146N, to exit 3 – make left at end of exit (16W). Go about a quarter mile, and take a left on Douglas Rd., where you see the sign for Lenz Corp. A long warehouse building soon appears on your right with many bay doors, and on the far lefthand side of this building (when you are facing it), there is a small storage cage on the loading dock. Toss Styrofoam into the cage. Styrofoam should be clean and dry. If you are dropping off outside of their hours in the collection cage, please secure the foam in plastic bags.
Consider mailing in foam for recycling to one of these locations, as it is light and relatively inexpensive to do so.
Not accepted in the RI recycling program.
